CHEERS

The pub where everyone knows your name! In 1982, TV producers were looking for a
location on which to base a new sitcom set in a bar. They found it in the Bull and
Finch pub in Beacon Hill and Cheers was born. Instantly the show entered TV legend
and its inspiration became an attraction for tourists visiting Boston. For over ten years
the show was a smash hit. It charted the lives, loves and inane conversation of
bartender Sam Malone (played by Ted Danson) and his regulars, Cliff Clavin and
Norm Peterson. Its last episode was aired on May 20th, 1993 followed by a live
broadcast from the Bull and Finch itself.
Today, the most recognisable part of the bar is its famous staircase, featured in the
show's opening credits. Inside, though, the pub is very different to how it appears on
the classic show. Possibly as a response to this, a new Cheers pub has recently been
built in Faneuil Hill Marketplace, which is an exact replica of "Sam's bar".
Memorabilia from the show are displayed such as the Red Sox jacket worn by Malone
and you can buy t-shirts and souvenirs as well as enjoy a drink. Live entertainment is
also provided on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
