Boston, the capital of Massachusetts, is that rarity, a city that contains all the features of a major town, while never losing its sense of intimacy or friendliness. One key to this is that Boston is so easy to navigate. The best way to see it is via foot and all its main attractions are within a short proximity of each other. The heart of Boston is its famous Common. This is a great place to sit back and take in the ambiance of the city as well as a starting point for the famous Freedom Trail. Many things have shaped the picture we have of Boston today. One is politics. Many of America's foremost politicians have emerged from here over the years including Tip O'Neill, John Kerry and, of course, JFK. To learn some more about Boston's most famous son, a visit to the John F Kennedy museum should not be missed. Boston is a city of intellectuals. Some of the country's major colleges are located here or nearby, including the prestigious Harvard. It is not surprising then that its museums are of the highest standard. A City Pass ticket (which can be bought at the first attraction you visit) provides access to 6 of Boston's best: the Museum of Science, New England Aquarium, Skywalk Observatory, Museum of Fine Arts, the Harvard Museum of Natural History and the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum. Boston's place in history is assured. It was the location of the famous Tea Party and many of the major landmarks from the American War of Independence are located here. Another characteristic of Boston is the local passion for sport. This is sure to continue with the recent historic Boston Red Sox victory, winning the World Series in 2004 for the first time in 86 seasons. Why not check out a game or a tour of Fenway Park? A Boston bar was the inspiration for the Cheers series. Producers were looking for a location which featured friendliness, wit and a love of sport. Boston, you will agree, is all of these and so much more. A city you will want to return to again and again. |
