With its intellectual background, it is no surprise that Boston contains some magnificent museums and art galleries. One of its best, and one of the five largest art museums in the US, is The Museum of Fine Arts. The museum has a number of specialised permanent exhibitions. These include one of the world's largest collection of Monet paintings as well as other Impressionist works. Also featured is an Egyptian room, featuring mummies and a Japanese Temple Room. New exhibitions appear regularly and recent features include an examination of fashion in the 1850s, the art of the samurai and the etchings of Rembrandt. A visit to the museum should not be rushed. One of the benefits to purchasing a day ticket is that it includes an additional visit to the museum, if taken within 10 days. There is so much to take in that this provides the ideal opportunity to give each collection the attention it deserves. The museum is open from Saturdays to Tuesdays from 10 am to 4.45 pm and Thursdays and Fridays from 10 am to 9.45 pm. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $13 for seniors. Children under the age of 17 pay $6.50. However, if they enter after 3pm admission is free. The Museum of Fine Arts is located on 465 Huntington Avenue. |
